Bob McDonnell Begins Run For Governor

From the Daily Press we learn that AG Bob McDonnell is about to embark on his run for governor.  This is an election that should be exciting to watch and participate in.  McDonnell is a true conservative who should really bring the grassroots organizations out in a way we haven’t seen in years.

All three of his potential opponents are true, blue liberals in every sense of the word.

RICHMOND, Va. – Bob McDonnell is wrapping up his tenure as attorney general.

On Friday, the Republican leaves the office he won by only 323 votes out of nearly 2 million cast in 2005 to begin a race for governor.

His chief deputy, former state Sen. Bill Mims, steps in to fill out McDonnell’s term pending what is expected to be easy legislative confirmation. Mims is not running for a full term.

McDonnell has no challenger for the Republican nomination. That leaves him free to raise money while three Democrats–Creigh (Cree) Deeds, Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran–battle through a June primary.

Besides the governor, Virginians this year elect a lieutenant governor, a new attorney general and all 100 seats in the House of Delegates.

Obama Adopts Republican Stance on Taxes

Tax cuts are coming by April 1, according to Barack Obama.  Let’s get this straight, Cut Taxes To Spur Growth.

Isn’t it great to see the new administration taking up the Republican stance on so many causes?  The liberals must be freaking out.

Of course we conservatives know the Obama clan will come out swinging with a bunch of socialist garbage soon enough.

Now just be sure to head off to McDonald’s with your $13 a week!

The notoriously slow Congress passed the $787 billion economic stimulus package in a matter of weeks. President Obama signed it into law less than one month into his presidency.

So, just how soon will Americans start reaping the benefits of tax cuts in it?

By April 1, according to the president.

The $400 credit for individuals is to be doled out through the rest of the year. Couples are slated to get up to $800. Most workers are to see about a $13 per week increase in their take-home pay. In 2010, the credit would be about $7.70 a week, if it is spread over the entire year.

And, even as he promoted the record-breaking spending plan, he called for doing what’s necessary to control “exploding” deficits as the economy begins to improve.

I just love that last part.  The liberals can’t control themselves.  When Reagan cut taxes, revenue to the government more than doubled, but as soon as the liberals got control of Congress they spent, spent, spent.

Obama Agrees With Bush on Afghan Detainees

Barack Obama is disappointing his supporters once again by agreeing with former President George Bush that Afghan detainees at Bagram Airbase have no constitutional rights and cannot use US courts to fight for their freedom.

In a two-sentence court filing, department lawyers said the Obama administration agreed that detainees at Bagram Air Base cannot use U.S. courts to challenge their detentions. The filing shocked human rights attorneys.

“The hope we all had in President Obama to lead us on a different path has not turned out as we’d hoped,” said Tina Monshipour Foster, a human rights attorney representing a detainee at the Bagram Air Base. “We all expected better.”

“They’ve now embraced the Bush policy that you can create prisons outside the law,” said Jonathan Hafetz, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union who has represented several detainees.

It Is not the first time that the Obama administration has used a Bush administration legal argument after promising to review it. Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder announced a review of every court case in which the Bush administration invoked the state secrets privilege, a separate legal tool it used to have lawsuits thrown out rather than reveal secrets.

Extinct Bird Found, Then Eaten

A bird thought to be extinct was photographed in the Philippines, then sold as food.  People are upset about this, but what do you expect?  Birds are food.  We eat food.  Besides, have you ever seen what some of those native Filipinos eat over there?  It can’t be a surprise to you.

Let’s just hope they BBQ’ed it!

A bird suspected to be extinct was reportedly photographed for the first time in the Philippines, and then sold to a poultry market as food.

Worcester’s buttonquail was known only through illustrations based on decades-old museum specimens until a television crew documented the live bird in the market before it was sold in January, NationalGeographic.com reported.

Scientists had suspected the bird, found only on the island of Luzon, to be extinct, according to NationalGeographic.com.

Wild Bird Club of the Philippines President Michael Lu, told the Agence France-Press news agency that it’s unfortunate that the locals aren’t more conscious of the threatened wildlife around them.

“What if this was the last of its species?” he said.
