Fresh off the wires is the Nevada office of ACORN is being raided for voter fraud investigation. ACORN works to get low-income people registered to vote.
And what does this have to do with Obama? Plenty.
Obama worked for ACORN to pass the Illinois Motor-voter bill, was a “leadership trainer” for them, sat on boards that supported them, and his community efforts included protests under the guise of park building in the ACORN style.
Obama’s claim to ownership of cleaning up the asbestos in many low-income housing projects instead of giving the credit to Hazel Johnson who really deserves the credit, is backed by Madeleine Talbot. She ran Chicago ACORN and was so impressed by Obama she had him come on board to train her staff. What else about Talbot that we should be concerned with? She was a leader of direct action against the Chicago City Council. ACORN supporters stormed the council session pinning police back, knocking over metal detectors and tables. She was taken away in cuffs charged with disorderly conduct and mob action.
This woman recruited Obama into ACORN and whose staff he trained.
Other “community organizers” say Obama worked almost exclusively for blacks. To counter that statement the Obama camp points to an action he organized. During a meeting to discuss a landfill expansion, Obama’s cronies stormed the meeting, surrounded the table, chastised the city officials, then left. Since the action included a couple of whites and latinos this purportedly proves he works with non-blacks.
To protect their tax exempt status ACORN must remain politically neutral, yet Chicago ACORN leader Toni Foulkes wrote Case Study: Chicago – The Barack Obama Campaign praising ACORN’s work to get Obama elected. In return Obama served yearly to train ACORN staffers. Because of his longterm ties to ACORN, they were obliged to help him win his Senate seat, albeit in a non-partisan way. Whatever the hell that means.
Ties to ACORN, and radical, militant black churches led by Jeremiah Wright, Michael Pfleger, and others played a key role in his electability in Chicago. To pay them back he stongly supported ACORN causes, signature issues, legislation, and attended meetings of ACORN while in the State Senate.
Obama’s positions on boards for the Joyce Foundation and the Woods Fund helped him direct “tens of millions of dollars in grants to liberal orgainizations including Chicago ACORN “whose endorsement Obama sought and won in his State Senate race.” (NY Times) He accepted ACORN’s endorsment for president. (I should discuss the connection between Annenberg Challenge and the domestic terrorist who bombed the Pentagon, Capital, and NY Police Headquarters Bill Ayers and his wonderful, buddy-buddy relationship with Obama at this point, but it’ll wait for another time.)
ACORN is one of the most politically radical large-scale activist groups in the country and Obama’s ties with it are long, deep and strong. Remember, he trained them.
Here’s a nice piece from Malkin: http://michellemalkin.com/2008/06/25/the-acorn-obama-knows/
Thanks to Stanley Kurtz for much of this.
