I don’t have the hard copy of today’s Virginian Pilot in my hands, it’s still in the driveway, but I figured I’d check out their online site while I was watching the little one this morning.
If you look at the screen capture above you’d never know that thousands of people were in the Virginia Beach Convention Center cheering wildly for Sen. McCain and Governor Palin.
What you would know is that there was a long line of McCain – Palin supporters with protesters outside the convention center with bullhorns. You even get to learn the names of a few of them! Cool!
I told my wife, when we skipped the rally because of traffic, that the Pilot would probably lead off coverage of the rally with some garbage piece. I was right.
Not only that, but McCain – Palin is the second story, not the first. That’s absolutely appalling that a presidential candidate and his running mate can draw thousands of locals and not be the lead story. Even if it’s a throwaway piece like they ran.
I understand, from reading the responses on the Pilot’s web page that the hard copy got the right story on A-1. That’s fine and dandy, but the hard copy isn’t read around the country or around the world. Just here. People in Ohio don’t care about Louis Lucas and her cronies.
The editors and publisher chose to put a fluff piece on the front web page, not something of substance. It belongs in the garbage can.
After about 20 years holding a subscription, I’m seriously debating with myself whether or not I need the Pilot in my recycle bin. I guess I’m just a slow learner.
