Here’s a follow up on the City of Chesapeake, Virginia’s decision to hire a consultant to study whether a Police Math Test is racial. That’s right. Some in the City of Chesapeake think a 2+2=4 test is racist.
Two police groups have threatened to sue the city if the test scores are thrown out. Good for them. The attorney for Chesapeake’s Fraternal Order of Police and the Coalition of Police, Micheal Imprevento, said, “It is my belief that any invalidation of these results would be based strictly on race…. The test was race-neutral.”
He’s right, it’s a math test for God’s sake.
“This test involved knowledge of policies and procedures necessary to become a supervisor,” Imprevento said of the promotion exams. “The same policies and procedures are available for all to review as police officers.” Well heck, if those that didn’t finish high enough to get promoted don’t know those things, then they don’t deserve the promotion.
Get with it Chesapeake and don’t be so reactive like Virginia Beach was. Don’t dumb down your test just to promote blacks and women.
All the officers had the resources to pass the test. It would appear some took it more seriously than others.
