Well, the Washington Redskins lost to the Baltimore Ravens and all my optimism at the start of the season is gone. We’re not going to make the playoffs without some serious help. Help I don’t see coming.
The fact is we had a great defense again this year, but the offense was largely inept and ineffective. I think we’re something like fourth in scoring. Pitiful. It’s the NFL for goodness sake and you can’t make the playoffs with that type of performance.
I’m not going to complain, bitch, moan or groan about it. Coach Jim Zorn has actually outperformed my expectations. Jason Campbell is improving and I think he should be allowed to fling the rock more over the next two games since we’re pretty much out of the Wild Race. It’s time to let him loose.
We also need to take a serious look at Clinton Portis. I’m not suggesting we should dump this fantastic athlete, but he needs some help. Portis is getting older and he’s going to get hurt. We need him to be a mentor for a new, young runner.
Maybe next year will be our year because this year wasn’t. This year has been a surprise, but it looks as if it will finish predictably.
