Since my lovely wife gave birth to Chubby I’ve gained a new affinity for grocery store coupons. Let me tell you, the price of formula was a real surprise to me. I had no idea that powder was so costly, sheeez…
I generally go to Food Lion and use my MVP card, but when you have coupons, WOW!, the savings really add up. You have to understand, I never really understood using coupons. I felt they were ghetto, like food stamps for people with scissors. Not anymore. Nope. I view coupons as found cash. And I have no shame about using them.
We’ve been slack in collecting them lately, but I still try to use them when possible.
Last month I went to Food Lion and used coupons for all kinds of stuff including diapers, formula, snacks, frozen veggies, drinks, you name it. I spent just over $100, but saved $33! That’s 33 bucks in my pocket! That’s FREE MONEY!
One thing you need to be sure you don’t do is buy junk just because you have a coupon for it. If you’re fat and have a coupon for Dorito’s, don’t get them. Don’t use a coupon to buy candles if you don’t normally use candles. In other words, don’t spend or use it just because you’ve got it.
Last week I went to Farm Fresh at Haygood and didn’t have coupons, plus they don’t have discount cards, but they do have great prices. Plus they have their own fuel pumps where you can save money on gas by purchasing certain products in the store. Right now I have coupons from the store for 20 cents off per gallon of gas up to 15 gallons. Since their fuel prices are the same as the discount chains, guess where I’m getting gas this afternoon.
Ah yes, coupons. Free money, baby!
