Here’s my review of 12 Bones Smokehousein Asheville, NC. Overall I’d give it a C+ at best. That’s it.
We arrived right at opening time, 11am. I had sliced brisket with onions, smoked potato salad and collards. The brisket was dry. Very dry. I think they slice it and then heat it because that’s what it looked like. Even the onions had that dried out look. $7.50
My wife had a pulled pork sandwich with garlic mashed potatoes and corn pudding. I tasted the PP and it was just ok. She added some of their tomato based sauce and that improved the taste, but the meat itself was nothing to write home about. She loved the mashed potatoes and the corn pudding. I must say, the corn pudding was mighty fine. $6.00
Of the two people with us, one had the chopped brisket sandwich with chips. She seemed to enjoy it. I didn’t try any, but it looked like a Manwich there was so much sauce on it. (Probably because it was dry.) $5.00
The other person joining us had the pulled pork sandwich with sweet vinegar slaw on it. The slaw wasn’t his favorite. He described it as OK. His other side was the garlic mashed potatoes. He said they weren’t too garlic-ee, but you could tell it was there. $6.00
I don’t know how places like this get to be “famous” with mediocre faire such as this. What a disappointment.
