The whole family went to Chili’s restaurant on Virginia Beach Blvd, at Collins Square Shopping Center today for dinner. Not being fools we arrived right at 5pm to avoid any rush since we had the kids with us. Sure enough, the place was fairly empty.
We were waited on pretty quickly by a nice gal who took our drink and chip orders. Drinks and chips arrived quickly. Thank goodness because the food sure didn’t.
The wife and I ordered the Two for $20 thing. We had the chips, plus the wife got chicken fajitas and I got a half rack of ribs, Memphis style, and loaded mashed potatoes. Girl-child chose chicken strips with fries and boy-child got grilled cheese and fries.
Food came very, very slowly. You’d think getting there before the rush we could get served promptly, but no, that wasn’t the case. Thank goodness for the chips and salsa.
The children’s orders came first. We had to wait for the fajitas to be “heated up”. Boy-child liked his grilled cheese and fries. He was so cute dipping his sandwich into some ketchup. Girl-child didn’t care for her chicken. It looks, and tastes like they boil the chicken, then batter it and fry it. Not very appetizing even for a 7 year old.
I shouldn’t have gotten the ribs. I really knew better, but did it anyway. I don’t know how they cook them, but they sure aren’t smoked. My ribs were not hot and not good. They were grey all the way through with no smoke ring.
Chili’s says their ribs are “fall off the bone” good. Well, I think they fall off the bone because they’re overcooked and dry. There’s nothing moist holding the meat on.
Oh yeah, my potatoes were warm. Not hot. Too bad to, I was looking forward to them.
The wife liked her fajitas. The order came out hot and steamy. I think that was part of the problem, nothing else did.
The waitress was nice and got a healthy tip for having to clean up the small mess left behind by boy-child.
Call it a 4 out of 10. I don’t see us going back there again.
