After multiple failed attempts to upload a video to Facebook while using Google Chrome I searched the web for an answer to my problem. Imagine this, I’m not the only one incapable of this and uploading to YouTube and then linking to it was not an option in this case.
Let me start by saying I really like Chrome. In fact, I like it so much I broke company policy and loaded it on my work terminal. Shhh….. Its quick, intuitive and easy for anyone to use. Even some of the people I work with who are computer novices can navigate with it easily, however, there are issues.
What I’ve found from my own experience, and what little was published on the web, is loading a video to Facebook using Chrome and be an exercise in futility.
When uploading to Facebook you browse your computer, select the video, then click Share. At that point a popup will show you the estimated time left for the upload. I wasn’t getting that pop-up. I wasn’t getting any response what-so-ever. If you search for it, you’ll find there are no answers, just questions.
After attempting to load the video multiple times and having multiple failures, I decided to try uploading the video using good old Internet Explorer. Guess what… It worked the first try. After uploading I left IE, went back to Chrome and was able to make all my adjustments to the video within Facebook like I normally would.
I guess there’s no good answer here until Facebook and Chrome get there acts together. Until then, upload your video using IE. Sorry, wish we had a better alternative.
The upload will work using chrome. You likely do not have pop-ups permitted from facebook.com and chrome continues to block the upload. Try loading the video again. Then, in the top right corner, click on the pop-up blocked icon and select ‘allow pop-ups from facebook.com’ and then select the link to the video to begin the upload. Go chrome!
Thanks. I’ll try that next time and if it works I’ll update the post.
no, actually, it just doesn’t work…
